7. Nova Was Supposed To Debut In Avengers: Infinity War
An early plan for Avengers: Infinity War was for Nova to be the hero who crashes to Earth and warns Doctor Strange about Thanos' impending attack (that role instead went to The Hulk). However, there's a good reason it was cut, as the writers of the film explained during their recent live commentary.
Originally, the plan was for Thanos to actually be shown attacking Xandar, the home of the Nova Corps which the Guardians of the Galaxy saved in their first film, leaving the Power Stone with Nova Prime.
As a result of that being scrapped, so too was Nova's big screen debut according to Markus. "It was an early idea," the writer admits, "but we just reached a critical mass of new characters, and after we got rid of the Xandar sequence, it didn't make much sense."
Fans have been anxious to see Nova on the big screen for years now, but seeing as James Gunn has shown relatively little interest in the character, it simply hasn't happened. On the plus side, him being considered for Avengers: Infinity War hopefully means he's still on Marvel's radar in some way.
