Avengers: Infinity War - Everything We Know So Far

2. The Rumour Mill Is Absolutely Packed

Avengers: Infinity War has sent the rumour mill into overdrive, given that it's one of the biggest films of the decade - or even the century.

Because it's the culmination of everything that's happened in the MCU up to this point, and, in many ways, will be an ending, fans are expecting at least one character to meet their maker - and a rumour, started by an MCU actor, points to that character being Captain America.

That's Sebastian Stan (who plays Bucky/The Winter Soldier), carrying a Captain America-inspired shield, mentioning that it will "come in handy". Bucky takes over as Captain America in the Captain America #34 comic from 2008, so a precedent for this has been set.

Another major rumour points to the return of Hugo Weaving's Red Skull. While on the Kong: Skull Island promotional tour, Samuel L. Jackson let slip that one of the reasons Nick Fury wasn't in Civil War was because he was "trying to figure out what The Skull is going to...", before being cut off.

Speaking of villains, another rumour indicates that the Chitauri - the alien race of cannon fodder soldiers who attacked New York in The Avengers - will make a return.

Here's an excerpt from a casting call on Project Casting that's asking for alien extras for Infinity War:

"Aliens: We are now taking submissions to be considered for a fun background role on this upcoming movie. Looking for men and women, all ethnicities, who appear 18 – 50’s, who are TALL with a SLENDER or athletic build. MUST be comfortable being PAINTED (including on your face & any exposed body parts). Also looking for people willing to have prosthetics applied to their face, in addition to being painted. Bumps will be provided for makeup & prosthetic applications."

It certainly sounds like the Chitauri - but make of that what you will.

There have also been numerous rumours about the nature of the character that Peter Dinklage will be playing. Some think he's playing MODOK or Eitir, but the actor's hair colour seems to indicate otherwise:

His red crop of hair evokes the look of Pip The Troll, Adam Warlock's sidekick...

There are plenty more rumours - far too many to list here - but as is always the case, take each and every one of them with a pinch of salt!
