Avengers: Infinity War - [Spoiler's] Last Line Reveal Will Break Your Heart

Time to get emotional. Again.

Avengers: Infinity War's ending is brutal, with hero after hero disappearing into the ether.

A lot has been made over the emotional impact of Spider-Man disintegrating, with Tom Holland's performance perfectly selling the tragedy of the moment, but it's not really easy to watch any of them go.

Among those is Groot, who disappears in front of Rocket (the only other Guardian member on Wakanda), and while it's sad to watch him go in the moment, a new reveal from Guardians director James Gunn makes it much more devastating.

Asked on Twitter what his final "I am Groot" actually means, Gunn responded with "Dad."

This does fit with everything we've seen of Groot since Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, where the baby version of the character was looked after by the whole team, a dynamic that continues in Infinity War, with both Rocket and Peter Quill frequently telling him off.

It's unclear whether he views the entire team as his family, or just specifically Rocket, but as they've been together the longest it's a great (if sad) way of further deepening the relationship between the two.
