Avengers: Infinity War - What Does The Ending Really Mean?

5. Red Skull Could Come Back Again

There have been a number of theories over the past couple of years regarding Red Skull's status in the MCU, given we never saw him die, with one of the most prevalent being that Thanos would resurrect him in Infinity War.

That doesn't happen, but the Skull does return in a more surprising way, now played by The Walking Dead's Ross Marquand rather than Hugo Weaving. When Thanos and Gamora head to Vormir, where the Soul Stone is held, he emerges as a Death-like figure who guards the Stone and warns people of the cost of retrieving it.

Since the Stone has now been retrieved, it means Red Skull no longer has any purpose on Vormir. This could mean he's simply free to truly pass on and die properly, but it also leaves it very much open for another return for the character. Based on what happens in this movie, there's the potential for a final Steve Rogers-Red Skull showdown, which would be an interesting way of bringing both of their stories to an end, but it's equally as fitting to just say he's done now too.
