Avengers: Age Of Ultron Ending - 10 Major Repercussions For The MCU
5. Iron Man Is Retired (Again)
One of the weirder parts of Age Of Ultron is Tony Stark's unexplained, seemingly instantaneous return to being a superhero after retiring in spectacular fashion at the end of Iron Man 3. That film did well at exploring the PTSD the hero was suffering, understandably, after facing an alien invasion and almost dying after flying into space in the first Avengers film. The conclusion made sense, with Tony quitting the game so he could be with Pepper. The second Avengers opens with Iron Man in full swing once again, without once making reference to his apparent retirement. He was sort of necessary, since he funds the whole operation since the dissolution of SHIELD. Yet again, at the end of Age Of Ultron, he swears off the superhero game for a second time. How that comes into play on the third Captain America remains to be seen. Robert Downey Jr will complete his multi-film contract with Civil War, meaning that may very well be the swansong of Tony Stark. In which case, Age Of Ultron might actually be the moment that Iron Man actually retired with Stark taking on a villainous, civilian role when next we see him. He's already on that road, with the megalomania apparent in making Ultron in the first place.
