Prediction: Damien Chazelle (La La Land)

While it's certainly possible for Ken Loach to receive a win here as a recognition of his career and the fact he may never make another movie, Damien Chazelle basically has the Best Director Oscar won, and it seems pretty damn likely BAFTA will fall in line as well.

Should He Win?: Definitely. Whatever you make of the film, Chazelle's firecracker direction imbued the film with so much energy and made it feel quite like no other musical out there.

There are definitely strong arguments to make for the other movies (Arrival, Nocturnal Animals and Manchester by the Sea), but Chazelle's explosive work makes La La Land a supremely entertaining experience.
