BAFTAs 2021: 8 Ups & 7 Downs

To the surprise of not a single living soul, Pixar's Soul won the Best Animated Film BAFTA, beating out fellow nominees Wolfwalkers and Pixar's other 2020 release, Onward.

As terrific as Soul is, this felt like another squandered opportunity for BAFTA to recognise an arguably superior film which just hasn't received its due on the awards circuit - Cartoon Saloon's magnificent Wolfwalkers, which was actually marginally better-reviewed than Soul.

Even with BAFTA's tendency to favour local nominees and nearby neighbours, the Irish animation failed to scoop the gong, ensuring Soul will steamroll its way to the Oscar podium completely unimpeded.
