BAFTAs 2021: 8 Ups & 7 Downs

Ups...

8. Crafts Categories Get Their Due

Despite the aforementioned misgivings about BAFTA relegating the crafts categories to their own one-hour show the night before, it was at least refreshing to see these awards given time to breathe for once.

Rather than rush through Costume Design, Makeup & Hair, Production Design, Visual Effects, and Sound in a fleeting montage, each nominee's crafts contributions were discussed in detail by film critic Rhianna Dhillon and actress Joanna Scanlan.

As a result, it didn't so much feel like these fields were being skated through to make room for the more "prestigious" fields, with time instead being taken to actually educate and inform the audience about what goes into each discipline.

Now if they could just incorporate this attitude into the main show, that'd be great.
