6. Ava DuVernay

Ava DuVernay is by far the highest-profile director on this list, coming to major prominence for helming 2014's Best Picture-nominated Selma, scoring an Oscar nod for her fantastic Netflix documentary 13th, and is currently putting the finishing touches on her Disney blockbuster A Wrinkle in Time.

DuVernay was originally in talks to helm Black Panther but passed on it due to creative differences, which at least shows she's not averse to tackling a superhero movie.

How Likely Is It?: It's easy to imagine DuVernay passing on this one because of the more bombastic demands of an in-universe superhero film, but at the same time, perhaps she just might sign on if Warner Bros. allowed her to create a mixed-race Barbara Gordon.

Given how DuVernay's filmography is generally focused on the black experience, it's hard to imagine her helming a traditionally white story without a bold re-adjustment. And really, are Warner Bros. of all studios going to want the avalanche of racist hand-wringing that'll come with this? 2/10
