Batman: Every Live-Action Alfred Pennyworth Ranked Worst To Best

In the 2019 film, Joker, Arthur Fleck heads to Wayne Manor after he comes to the conclusion Thomas Wayne is his father. As Arthur speaks to Thomas' son, Bruce, Alfred Pennyworth appears, urging the young Wayne to move away. Arthur does his best to encourage Alfred to let him see his "father", but the esteemed butler orders him to vacate the premises.

And that's... pretty much it. Since he appears for less than two minutes, you'll be forgiven if you didn't remember Alfred was in the film. Because he's never named, some people weren't sure the actor in question, Douglas Hodge, was portraying the Waynes' butler.

Although this incarnation of Alfred is heavily protective of Bruce, Hodge plays him with less decorum than usual since he berates Arthur, and shows little sympathy for his mother's mental health.

Even though Hodge has proven to be a phenomenal actor in Black Mirror and Lost in Space, he doesn't have a lot of screen-time here to make a lasting impression. This decision is understandable since the film focuses on Fleck's rise to supervillainy but it's a shame we didn't see this Alfred get fleshed out a bit more.
