Batman: Every Live-Action Alfred Pennyworth Ranked Worst To Best
3. Jeremy Irons - DC Extended Universe
There is no question that Ben Affleck's Batman was a major highlight in the DC Extended Universe. But we must remember that a lot of his performance was elevated by his co-star, Jeremy Irons, who portrayed Alfred.
This incarnation isn't just there to make tea. As we saw in Batman v Superman, he's a lot more hands-on. While Bats rescues Martha Kent from a pack of thugs, Alfred takes control over the Batwing and its weaponry, showing he isn't afraid to get direct involved in vigilantism.
But Irons' take on the character isn't just more involved in Batman's crusade physically, but mentally. Although previous Alfreds have voiced their concerns with Bruce, Irons' version openly argues with him, barking at him to cease his obsession over Superman.
It's also worth mentioning that their entire relationship can be summarised in one moment. In Justice League (the real one), Bruce introduces Alfred to his fellow heroes by saying, "This is Alfred. I work for him." This simple statement demonstrates how Bruce doesn't see Alfred as a mere helper, but as an equal, and perhaps even his superior.
In hindsight, it's a genuine pity the DC Extended Universe wasn't aligned better since it gifted us with a truly great Alfred.
