3. Expanding The Rogues Gallery
Batman is well known for having one of the best rogues gallery in the business. Very few other characters can even come close to the plethora of villainy Batman has at his disposal. While Nolan tried admirably to ground Batman's foes in reality as much as he could, there was always that eagerness for the villains to be let off the leash just that little bit more. Other than the fact that the Joker is greatest villain ever in my opinion, there's a reason why Heath Ledger's portrayal is regarded as the best of the bunch. It's because the Joker perfectly fits the realistic style of Nolan's world, apart from the whole bleached skin thing in the comics. He has no super powers just like Batman, his power is his intelligence and to an extent his insanity. Whereas the other villains Nolan prompted for are essentially more theatrical and mythical choices to put in his trilogy. With the reboot, there is a chance to truly create a villain master class of foes challenging Batman in every way possible. This is again a major aspect to the appeal of Batman, his underdog status against people he has no business being put up against. For example if the Bane of the comics was put up against Nolan's version of Batman? Well lets just say those fight scenes would have been a whole lot shorter, we will get into the combat portrayals later. Fans of Batman want to see something different on screen than what we've seen before, we know we will get the Joker again... sorry Ledger devotees it's going to happen, but give someone else a chance to become another cinematic icon alongside the Joker. This is perhaps why the other villains in Nolan's trilogy never quite measured up to Joker, because they weren't playing their true versions. They were restricted to Nolan's rules and setting. Just because some villains are more unrealistic doesn't mean they cannot be done right-see the Marvel movies. Can anyone honestly say they wouldn't like to see a Batman movie involving such favorites as Hush, Clayface, Killer Croc and even the recent comic entry of the Court of Owls would be spectacular. The list goes on and on, come on Hollywood make it work this time and don't give us a another shoddy camp mess!
