Batman Triumphant: 8 Reasons Warner Bros Are Mad To Kill It

5. The Rogue's Gallery

batman joker So far we've already seen the majority of Batman's greatest adversaries in the four modern Batman films made to date, and though the comics offer bountiful opportunities in the wider rogue's gallery, there aren't really many single villains left who could replicate the on-screen successes of the likes of The Joker, The Penguin, Catwoman or The Riddler. The answer to that particular problem, as Schumacher has already recognised was always to share focus between multiple adversaries. Yes, it didn't particularly work on Batman & Robin (mostly thanks to the ridiculous ham performances of the actors, rather than the narrative decision behind their inclusion) but the rogue's gallery suggested for Triumphant is plainly too good to turn down. If all rumours are to be believed, we could have The Scarecrow (arguably the greatest single villain yet to be explored,) Harley Quinn, Man-Bat, The Mad Hatter and a return (of sorts) for The Joker, in a move that would bring Schumacher's vision of the Bat closer to Tim Burtons. How could so many villains in one movie be a bad thing - imagine Batman, Robin and Batgirl standing back to back in a chaotic Gotham, the score soaring as we spin around them, watching them size up their multiple oncoming foes? That's one hell of an essential shot right there, and the kind of thing that this sort of superhero ensemble movie should be marketed on from the get-go.
