Batman V Superman: 10 Plot Holes That Make No Sense
6. What Did Lex Luthor Actually Set Out To Achieve?
Lex Luthor's plan in Batman v Superman is so convoluted and so unnecessarily complicated that it just ends up feeling like one huge plot hole; there are so many contradictions scattered throughout the movie - not to mention that Luthor doesn't really have any clear or obvious motives for doing what he does - that it's hard to know what actually happened or what he was trying to achieve. Evil mastermind? Pah! Consider firstly that Luthor wants Superman and Batman to fight, then, and that he wants Batman to kill Superman: on a basic level, this makes sense if Luthor believes that Superman is a potential threat to mankind in the same way that Batman does. But why would he also need to create Doomsday if his plan was to get Batman to kill Superman? As soon as the damn monster is born it tries to kill Luthor instantly, so how did its creation figure into his plan? Had said monster defeated both Batman and Superman, which seems like something Luthor also wanted to happen (?), wouldn't Doomsday have been even more dangerous to have on Earth than Superman was in the first place? It's incredibly hard to imagine that the writers had a grasp of this villain's overall plan. Trying to work it all about is enough to trigger a Metropolis-sized migraine.
