Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice - 10 Major Concerns Fans Still Have
7. Jesse Eisenberg As Lex Luthor
Lex Luthor, aside from having his surname plastered on a few items, was wisely left out of Man of Steel. Given his status as Metropolis' most famous human resident, however, there was little chance of him not showing up in the second picture. There is no character better suited to exploit the destructive of events of MOS' climax than the man who despises Superman most. The casting of Jesse Eisenberg to play Luthor raises a couple of questions, though. First, Eisenberg is a poor physical match for his comic book counterpart, which is a rare aesthetic departure by director Zack Snyder. While no one has ever come that close to bringing Luthor's modern age, physically idealized form to the silver screen, Eisenberg is furthest from the mark. Issues with physicality can be overcome in the movies just as Lex does in the source material. Luthor could never really matchup up against Superman in traditional fisticuffs anyway, so Eisenberg can still make for a good Lex with his devious intellect. We know without a doubt that Eisenberg can play a smart jerk, but that's the second point of contention- we've seen it before. Giving Lex a sharp, fast, snarky wit is fine, but there ought to be something that distinguishes one of DC's top villains from Mark Zuckerberg, whom Eisenberg played in The Social Network. Rumors about Lex's Batman v Superman characterization are not dissimilar to Zuckerberg and other roles Eisenberg has played in recent years. Jesse Eisenberg is a fine actor. To be a great Lex Luthor, though, he'll have to do something unique to elevate the character, not just shave the role down to fit what he's already good at.
