Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice - 10 Major Concerns Fans Still Have

6. What Did Warner Bros. Learn From Man Of Steel?

Man of Steel did not please everyone, nor did it come close. Some of the biggest, most frequent criticisms accused the film of being joyless, melodramatic, and devoid of trademark Superman fun and charm. You may not agree with all of those criticisms, just as I don€™t, but they are part of the film€™s overall perception. The hope after Man of Steel was that Warner Bros. and director Zack Snyder would take that feedback and put together a second Superman movie that improved upon its predecessor. The answer instead was to bring in another iconic superhero so that he and Superman could fight. Then came a series of promotional images and a Comic-Con teaser that showed no tonal change at all. While there is surely not a literal €œno jokes€ mandate at Warner Bros., the studio does have some opportunities in the fun department. Despite an abundance of worthwhile notes from critics and audiences, Warner Bros. is sticking to its dark and gritty guns. This is not inherently a bad thing. I was in Hall H at Comic-Con and the stare down between Batman and Superman looked brilliant on the big screen. I like all of the images the studio€™s released so far. Of course, I liked Man of Steel, as did the folks you€™ll see praising what we€™ve seen from Batman v Superman thus far. Warner Bros. is doing a fantastic job of preaching to the converted, but the studio has yet to demonstrate its newest DC film will please the many who disliked the last one.
