Batman Vs. Superman Movie: 10 Potential Reasons They Could Fight
8. Lex Luthor's Manipulations
It's established casually in Man of Steel that LexCorp - therefore Lex Luthor - exists. As Superman's most famous enemy, one would imagine he'd play a large part in the sequels. One of Luthor's many talents is being a shrewd manipulator, often bending super-villains to his will and even tricking heroes. It wouldn't be hard to imagine Lex Luthor seeing the threat of Superman and using the world's second greatest hero to defeat him. Even if Batman isn't able to accomplish the task, it could still work to ruin Superman's reputation. Case in point: the episode "Clash" of "Justice League Unlimited" featured the hero Captain Marvel accidentally supporting Lex Luthor for his presidential campaign (long story). This caused a philosophical clash between the two since Superman believed they had no business in politics - especially not regarding Lex Freaking Luthor - and Captain Marvel believed they should use their fame to promote their beliefs. When Lex Luthor began a free energy project, Superman confronted Lex - believing the project was a weapon - which caused Captain Marvel to arrive and fight him. Their battle ended up damaging much of the city block and the machine turned out to not even be a weapon. Of course, this served to endear Luthor to the public, as he was now the reasonable civil servant being oppressed by the violence of superheroes. And it was all according to plan.
