6. Vincent Cassel
Cassel's most infamous role is in the Mesrine films, which are absolutely awesome character pieces, thanks mostly to the actor's success in the titular role. In his hands, Jacques Mesrine is charming and deadly - a combination that would be perfect for Lex Luthor. A Luthor who can smile to your face while feeding your mother to a tank of piranhas would be cinematic gold, and Cassel is the right actor to bring a part like that to life. His performance in 1995's La Haine, a French classic, is one of mesmeric anger, and offers proof that Cassel can play a character fuelled almost entirely by rage. The actor - who would later bring charisma and dark humour to his villainous role in Ocean's Twelve - could tap into that anger again for the role of Lex Luthor, pairing his natural French charm and charisma with unadulterated rage. The suave sophisticated millionaire always on the verge of snapping completely, and it would be good to see some parallel between Luthor and Affleck's Bruce Wayne.
Stand Out Moment: In Mesrine: Killer Instinct Vincent Cassel sits in a bar drinking with an ageing gangster, played by Gérard Depardieu, in a fantastic, irresistible scene. Cassel is the epitome of cool and casual criminal, and electricity seems to crackle between he and Depardieu.
