Batman Vs Superman: 20 Big Questions That Still Need Answers

19. What About All Of That Destruction?

Both Snyder and Goyer have said multiple times that the destruction of Metropolis at the end of Man Of Steel is exactly the kind of demonstration of power they wanted Superman and the Kryptonians to represent; after all, they are Gods among us and when they clash mankind will pay the consequences. And they definitely got their point across, for better or for worse. Intriguingly, more than dealing with the physical damage done to Metropolis and Smallville, Superman is also going to have to deal with being the one responsible for it. Although good arguments are made in favour of Superman being en inexperienced fighter trying mostly to prevent himself from dying, he's still going to blame himself, because that is just who he is. But to think that the battle "could've been taken elsewhere" is a little foolish: the Kryptonians were angry, violent, and hell bent on replacing Earth with new Krypton, and sooner or later, everyone would've been dead. But Superman had a hell of a time stopping them, and as a result a lot of people lost their lives, and that's going to play a significant part on the sequel, even if it just means a looming shadow over the narrative and over Superman's character.
