Batsh*t Bonkers Trailer For Tom Hardy's Capone Movie Drops!
Chronicle director Josh Trank reveals his biopic about the dementia-riddled gangster.
Chronicle and Fan4stic director Josh Trank tweeted out the first trailer for his upcoming gangster biopic Capone, starring Tom Hardy as the legendary 20th-century Chicago mobster.
The film follows Al Capone in his twilight years as he suffers from syphilis-induced dementia after an 11-year stint in prison, and becomes haunted by his violent past as both his mental state and family ties deteriorate. The cast also includes Linda Cardellini as Mae, Al's wife, and Jack Lowden stars as an FBI agent intent on putting Capone back behind bars, with supporting roles by Matt Dillon, Kyle MacLachlan, Noel Fisher, and Kathrine Narducci. Trank also wrote and edited the film.
Originally titled Fonzo, Capone represents Trank's return to directing after the ill-fated 2015 Fantastic Four reboot (better known as Fan4stic), which he infamously disowned after being denied final cut privilege. Capone seems to represent Trank's comeback from the "director's jail" Fan4stic's dismal reviews and poor box office returns put him in.
Though Trank initially intended for the film to be released theatrically, due to the ongoing global issues closing theatres around the globe, the film will be released on VOD on May 12 by Vertical Entertainment and Redbox Entertainment, though on his Twitter Trank indicated a theatrical release of some kind may be in the future.
Trank's tweet also indicates that the version being released is his director's cut.
Several filmmakers who have already seen the film in early screenings have sung its praises on Twitter, including Bliss and VFW director Joe Begos, Star Wars: The Last Jedi and Knives Out director Rian Johnson, and Mandy screenwriter Aaron Stewart-Ahn.
