Benedict Wong Cast In Doctor Strange

Fans will be psyched to learn who he's playing!

Just when you thought that we had heard all the Doctor Strange casting news (especially consiering the fact that production is already underway), out of nowhere comes the news that Benedict Wong (The Martian, Netflix's Marco Polo) has been cast as none other than fan-favourite Doctor Strange supporting character, Wong. Of course, seeing as the character of Wong was created in a time where racial stereotypes were considered A-OK, the character was initially the Asian manservant of Doctor Strange who also happened to know Kung-Fu. Here's hoping that none of that stuff makes it into the movie, because, hey - it's 2016, and it's not cool for privileged white folk to have ethnic manservants anymore. What's more likely to happen is that Strange will meet Wong during his studies in Kathmandu, and Wong will likely be affiliated with the Ancient One. Perhaps Wong will accompany Strange back to Manhattan as his contemporary, rather than a manservant. It's unclear at this time how much screen-time Wong will actually get, considering the fact that shooting was well underway when he was cast. That said, The Hollywood Reporter did refer to it as a "key" role, but that could simply be in reference to the stature of the character in the comics. Doctor Strange is released on 4th November 2016.
