20 Greatest Horror Movie Endings of the 2020s (So Far)
10. Bones & All
Luca Guadagnino's Bones and All absolutely delivers on the promises of its title in its haunting yet strangely moving finale, where cannibals Maren (Taylor Russell) and Lee (Timothée Chalamet) once again cross paths with the dangerous older cannibal Sully (Mark Rylance).
Sully attacks Maren, but together she and Lee manages to overpower and kill him, though Lee is mortally wounded during the fight.
In the final scene, Lee urges Maren to eat him, "bones and all," reasoning that there would be no greater act of love than devouring his entire essence. And though reluctant to do so, Maren ultimately complies with his request.
Guadagnino does a fantastic job depicting the visceral intimacy of such an outcome without explicitly showing it, aided by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross' deeply emotive musical score.
People expect many things out of a horror film centered around cannibals, but they probably don't anticipate an ending so oddly tender and affecting.
