Immaculate stars Sydney Sweeney as Sister Cecilia, a young novice nun who eventually discovers she is pregnant despite being a virgin.
This leads to the third-act revelation that she was unknowingly impregnated with DNA from a Holy Nail used to crucify Jesus Christ, in the hope that she would give birth to a new messiah.
A horrified Cecilia subsequently stages her escape from the convent, though her water eventually breaks, leaving her to give birth outside and without assistance, even biting through the umbilical cord herself.
Though we don't ever see the baby, Cecilia's horrified reaction says plenty, not to mention the fact that she subsequently picks up a large rock and crushes the demonic baby to death. The End.
Between Sydney Sweeney's magnificent performance in the birthing scene, which is captured through a gruelling single take, and how abruptly the film ends after the demon spawn is killed, this is one punchy, unforgettable climax to a movie that otherwise settles for merely "pretty good."
