6. The Practical Gore Effects - Ice Cream Man
Even if Eli Roth wasn't raked over the coals for misleading audiences about the use of Gen AI in his new slasher flick Ice Cream Man, this is still a mostly awful, offputtingly crass exercise whose social commentary feels wholly half-baked.
But Roth gets some begrudging credit for his deference towards mostly practical gore effects here, resulting in a few hilariously gnarly moments, such as the riotous sequence where a young girl scoops out a man's brains and then feeds them to him. As you do.
These moments at least provoke a creatively nauseated reaction, whereas any second it's not serving as a showcase for inventive gore, it's mostly just going through the tired, self-consciously edgy motions. The Eli Roth special, basically.
This is bad enough that it'll have you desperately wishing you were watching the totally unrelated 1995 Clint Howard-starring Ice Cream Man instead.
