Billy Crystal: 5 Awesome Performances And 5 That Sucked
3. Miracle Max - The Princess Bride
Crystal has a small, scene stealing role in The Princess Bride; a film thats already overloaded with great performances and quotes. In the third act Montoya and Fezzik bring Westleys dead body to Miracle Max the kings former medicine man to be revived. Max is supposed to be around 2,000 years old in the story, so Crystal is buried under layers of make-up for the part make-up thats thankfully much more convincing than Mr. Saturday Night.
Crystal then proceeds to steal the movie for five minutes as a grumpy, fast talking grouch who reluctantly agrees to help. The actor is clearly having a blast as he spits out endless one-liners, and its to his credit that even with all the make-up he manages to make the character so expressive.
The only downside to his performance is that Max is barely in the movie, but whats there is arguably his finest comedic work.
