Billy Crystal: 5 Awesome Performances And 5 That Sucked

2. Mike - Monsters, Inc.

For people who don€™t like Billy Crystal, Monsters, Inc. provided the perfect solution; he was in a Pixar comedy with a great script and his face is never shown. He plays Mike, a neurotic green monster with a giant eyeball and a big ego, and Crystal gives his all to the performance, gifting Mike a wild energy that instantly makes the character loveable; he€™s cocky and a bit of a jerk, yet you can€™t help but like him anyway. In particular, his chemistry with John Goodman is a big part of why the movie works, because it's essentially a buddy movie with monsters in it. Their friendship helps ground the silliness and keeps the audience invested in their story. People loved the two characters so much they demanded to see more of them, but, as Monsters University proved, some backstories don€™t need to be filled in.
