Black Adam: 10 Things You Need To Know About Dwayne Johnson's DC Movie
7. It Takes Place In The Past AND Present
5000 years ago, Black Adam was a slave in Kahndaq and known by the name Teth-Adam. He was granted the powers of the Gods (which, as you'll know if you've seen 2019's Shazam!, are shortened into the acronym "SHAZAM") and decided to use his newfound abilities for vengeance on those who persecuted him, his home, and his family.
Ultimately, he was defeated and imprisoned, and at DC FanDome, Johnson heavily indicated that this movie will take place during both that time period and in the present day (which is where Black Adam crosses paths with the Justice Society).
"As we all know, there are many variations and iterations of Black Adam that we have all fallen in love with over the years, and what I promise you is a Black Adam that I feel in my heart is the right one [for] this origin story," the actor explained. "This is a character who will possess all the qualities that we love regardless of what variation of Black Adam [you're a fan of]."
It's unlikely the movie will spend too much time in the past, but Black Adam is clearly going to flesh out the hints Shazam! dropped about the "champion" who unleashed the Seven Deadly Sins.
