Black Panther: Every Character Ranked Worst To Best
9. T'Chaka
Played By: John Kani (And Atandwa Kani)
Black Panther is very much about the ghosts of the past, so it's fitting that at least one actually appears. With the weight of his role as king sitting heavy on T'Challa, T'Chaka appears a couple of times to help guide him. And John Kani is once more perfectly regal and warm (even when it turns out he has darkness in his past).
Crucially, the film doesn't have T'Challa struggling with being a king, but with the idea of losing his father. It's a subtle difference, but it's a smart one and it depends upon Kani's performance to really work.
It's something of a shame that this film came out straight after Thor: Ragnarok, considering the slight story similarities in the reveal of past paternal ghosts, but that doesn't take too much away at least.
And his 1992 version - played by Atandwa Kani (John's son) - is great. He looks like his father and he acts like him so it's all fairly seamless.
