It's no secret that Black Widow is set between the events of Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War, but when exactly does it take place in the years that passed between those two movies?

Co-producer Brian Chapek reveals that it kicks off immediately after Natasha's conversation with Tony Stark about General Ross' plans to track her down for breaking the Sokovia Accords.

"She's desperate to escape U.S. soil, and when she does evade Ross she almost has an opportunity to start over," he explains. "But she quickly realizes that there are darker forces out there in the world that may have been waiting for this opportunity, and this forces her back into action. Unfortunately, she doesn't get to have a retirement, which is probably something she wished she could've had."

It sounds like Black Widow manages to find peace - for a short time - before being called back into action, and it's likely whatever comes next that ultimately leads to her joining Captain America's Secret Avengers (bear in mind she was wearing Yelena's vest in Avengers: Infinity War).
