Black Widow Movie: 10 Things It Must Include
7. Coming To America
Further to those sentiments, a story centred around the fallout of Natasha's defection would make for a fantastic film, especially if it takes the same kind of historical angle as the upcoming Captain Marvel movie.
Those brief conversations we've seen where Nat's opened up about her time following her defection haven't always been as illuminating as audiences would've perhaps hoped, so it would make sense to go back to her formative years as the spy we know today for a full-length film. Doing so wouldn't just make sense in terms of expanding the character's backstory, but also in returning to the themes that made The Winter Soldier such an enjoyable project when it first released.
Espionage, treason, mistrust - all are elements central to and emblematic of Black Widow's character. They're also what made the Russo bros' first Marvel film so great, and while I wouldn't bank on them returning for yet another Marvel project, any film that elaborates on S.H.I.E.L.D's shady credentials is bound to be a hit, particularly if it places Nat's transition from Soviet spy to S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent front and centre to its proceedings.
We're yet to find out if Widow will make it out of Infinity War alive, but even if she doesn't, returning to her formative years as a S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent would make for a great character study. One that's way, way overdue.
