While there's no denying that the MCU has had its fair share of memorable action sequences, particularly in terms of scale alone, those smaller, more down-to-earth set-pieces haven't been as forthcoming. Winter Soldier had plenty, and no one could possibly forget the final fight from Civil War, but we're short on those Netflix-style sequences the Defenders have so elegantly managed to trademark these last few years.

A Black Widow film is the perfect outlet to lift those sequences from, however. The long take is having a resurgence, exemplified best - yes - by those shows, but also by productions like John Wick and, more recently, Atomic Blonde.

The latter two examples in particular lend themselves well to a Widow tale, and while the chances of an R-rated spy thriller starring the eponymous hero are admittedly slim, there are ways of getting around that issue. Iron Man 2's own hallway sequence showed flashes of what we'd later see in the Netflix shows, and while guns are the Widow's weapon of choice, those stingers on her wrists aren't just for show.

In fact there are plenty of tools at her disposal, and while R-rated comic book adaptations are themselves on the rise, there's nothing to stop Marvel from testing the limits of that PG-13 rating, much the same way Paul Greengrass' Bourne films did towards their end.
