Black Widow Stand-Alone: 10 Things Marvel Must Do

3. Deliver A Spy Thriller, Not A Special Effects Bonanza

Black Widow's not exactly Thor in terms of power levels. She's not even Daredevil, and it's arguable that she doesn't have superpowers at all, which makes her all the more impressive in a team of gods, monsters and super-soldiers. Because of this, putting her in a standard end-of-the-world superhero movie doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

Her standalone movie should play to the strengths of its character and chosen genre, and tell a spy story full of thrills, espionage and secrets rather than superhero bombast and massive, colourful explosions.

Sure, Johansson's great to watch in action but some of her best scenes are the quieter ones, where she's either matching wits with villains or facing believable stakes. Marvel could have their first intelligent thriller here if they play their cards right, and Scarlett Johansson's a strong enough lead that she can carry a quieter (but no less exciting) film.
