Bohemian Rhapsody Review: 5 Ups & 5 Downs
Ups...
5. Rami Malek's Chameleonic Performance
Though we'll never know what wonders Sacha Baron Cohen could've done if his planned Queen biopic ever went ahead, Rami Malek is an extremely solid replacement.
His inherent physical resemblance to Mercury is far from uncanny, but thanks to impressive make-up work and Malek's perfection of the singer's physical mannerisms, he ends up thoroughly convincing for the most part (those lip sync issues aside).
It's a broad portrait for sure, but one suspects that with a stronger script and direction, Malek could've ended up a major Oscar contender here. He's the movie's easy stand-out all the same and carries it effortlessly through its rougher moments.
