Bright Review: 3 Ups & 6 Downs

1. A Sequel Is Already On The Way

Before Bright even became available for streaming, Netflix confirmed that a sequel has been given the greenlight, with Will Smith already attached to return.

It's a bit of a gamble considering the film's generally mixed-negative critical response, though for the streaming platform it will ultimately come down to how many people watch the movie.

To that end, if Adam Sandler's Netflix movies always open to #1 viewership in every worldwide territory, it seems likely that Bright will be deemed a "success" for the platform, and the sequel will definitely go ahead.

Such is one of the drawbacks of Netflix's model: they're swimming in so much cash right now and don't need audiences to fork over cash specifically to watch a particular movie, so we're going to get a sea of mediocre projects like this that people watch hungover, as well as their wildly unnecessary sequels that are probably even worse.

Though Bright is undeniably a disappointing first blockbuster for Netflix, it's not a total, irredeemable trainwreck, so here's what actually worked...
