Adam Wingard's absurdly entertaining 2011 home invasion horror You're Next was a modest commercial success on its small $1 million budget, and considering the darkly hilarious note on which the film ended, there was absolutely the audience appetite for a sequel.
Though You're Next 2 sadly never happened, last year Wingard and writer Simon Barrett finally revealed precisely the bonkers premise they had in store for the follow-up.
The duo planned for the sequel to focus on Erin (Sharni Vinson) being arrested and blamed for all the dead bodies in the first film, ultimately being convicted and sent to jail.
But while being transported in a prison van, the vehicle would be attacked, prompting Erin and the prisoners she's chained to to seek refuge in a meth lab of all things, where they devise a series of brutal, Home Alone-style traps to fend off their assailants.
As fascinating a concept as that was, Barrett expressed relief that they didn't make it in the end, feeling that it would only make fans like the first film less in retrospect.
Whether he's right or not, there would've surely been a basic visceral thrill in seeing Sharni Vinson kick ass and take names once again, even without the novelty and surprise factor of the original.
