20 INSANE Horror Sequels We Almost Got
4. Truth or Dare IRL
Blumhouse's Truth or Dare was, despite terrible reviews, a massive box office hit, grossing almost $100 million globally on a mere $3.5 million budget.
A sequel seemed inevitable, then, but with no Truth or Dare 2 in sight by 2024, director Jeff Wadlow revealed the scrapped concept he and star Tyler Posey came up with.
Inspired by the real-life friendships that grew among the first film's cast, Wadlow and Posey conceived Truth or Dare IRL - a meta sequel in the vein of Wes Craven's New Nightmare, where the original demon Calux attached itself to the Truth or Dare cast.
Though the sequel was written and producer Jason Blum was provisionally on board, the project fell apart due to the pandemic, when the cost and logistics of sequestering the entire cast and crew together in a bubble for the whole shoot proved too cumbersome.
While Wadlow and Posey remain enthusiastic about the idea, they also acknowledge that too much time has now passed for the sequel to ever get made.
A damn shame, as it sounds a good deal more interesting than the generic rehash sequel most expected to get. Instead, despite the first film's mammoth success, no sequel of any kind ever materialised.
