20 INSANE Horror Sequels We Almost Got
13. Predator 3
Following the release of Predator 2 in 1990, several versions of a third film entered development, each of which were basically varying flavours of absolutely insane.
One common thread among most of the Predator 3 pitches, however, was a desire to bring Arnold Schwarzenegger's original protagonist Dutch back, presumably due to Predator 2 underwhelming at the box office without him.
One script, Predator 3: The Deadlier of the Species, was set in New York City during a blizzard and focused on a Predator coming to Earth to kill Dutch once and for all.
Another saw Dutch team up with Predator 2's protagonist Mike Harrigan (Danny Glover) after both are captured as "living trophies" and brought back to the Predator homeworld.
Perhaps the craziest of the lot, though, was Robert Rodriguez's Predator 3 pitch, which didn't involve Arnie or Danny Glover as it took place in the 17th century and focused on a ship's crew trying to fight off a Predator with primitive weaponry.
None of these concepts made it to the screen amid creative disagreements behind-the-scenes and Schwarzenegger's wider reluctance to return.
Rodriguez did eventually end up producing the real third Predator movie, Predators, which had the decidedly less-nutty concept of a group of skilled killers being dumped on an alien planet and hunted for sport.
