Back in May 2020, it was announced that Tom Cruise would be starring in a film shot in outer space with the collaboration of NASA and SpaceX, with his Edge of Tomorrow collaborator Doug Liman directing.

The ultra-ambitious film was planned to be shot in the International Space Station, though as of late word has gone rather quiet on it - and now we know why.

Reports emerged last December that the film has been quietly scrapped, largely due to the political reality that Cruise would need to work alongside President Donald Trump, given that the project required collaboration between NASA and the U.S. federal government.

With no desire to work with Trump, Cruise backed out, though this wasn't the only major hurdle to production getting underway.

A script also hadn't been completed, there were concerns about the insurance costs of sending Cruise and Liman to space, and then there's the sheer logistical nightmare that would be shooting a blockbuster film there.

It seems that even the ever-daring Cruise found his limit, though perhaps with a different person in the White House the other issues could've been overcome.
