20 Upcoming Film & TV Shows That Just Got Cancelled

In an era where so many TV shows starring A-list talent struggle to produce a season of TV per year, it's impressive that Jeremy Renner's crime thriller series Mayor of Kingstown released four 10-episode seasons in barely four years.

And though the show was renewed for a fifth season at the start of this year, Paramount also went on to announce that it would be Mayor of Kingstown's last, with the final season also being shortened from 10 episodes to eight.

No official reason has been given for the series' cancellation, but Deadline reported that while the show's ratings have ticked upwards since its first season, it simply wasn't one of creator Taylor Sheridan's bigger hits, ultimately falling behind the more popular likes of Landman and Tulsa King.

With Mayor of Kingstown being an expensive show to produce, the numbers presumably didn't shake out for Paramount to bankroll more episodes, but at least they've given Sheridan the runway to figure out a concrete ending.
