Captain America 2 Spoilers: 10 Ways It Sets Up Future Marvel Universe Movies

8. The Winter Soldier Will Return To Save Captain America (Again)

The central plot point in The Winter Soldier concerns - yep, you guessed it - The Winter Soldier. The name serves as an alias for Captain America's former best friend and WW2 ally Bucky Barnes, who - like the Captain - ended up cryogenically frozen and in the present day, only to have been brainwashed by Hydra and programmed to murder his buddy. At the end of the movie, during a final showdown, Captain America refuses to kill Bucky and tries to remind him they were once friends. This leads to Bucky saving an unconscious Captain America from drowning. The Captain isn't aware that Bucky saved him, however, and sets out to find his friend at the end of the movie - who he still believes to be brainwashed - with the Falcon at his side. A closing credits scene reveals that Bucky is coming to terms with his past, though - he visits the Captain America Museum and stares dramatically at a section dedicated entirely to him, suggesting that - at the very least - he's aware. And you can just imagine that by the time Captain America 3 swings around, Bucky will turn up to assist the Captain in what we'll only be able to describe as an "awesome team-up scene."
