Captain America: Civil War - 10 Big Implications Of Hulk & Thor's Absence

5. Other Characters Will Have To Step Up

Captain America: Civil War is essentially Avengers 2.5. In addition to Cap himself and his main opponent Iron Man, there will be support from the likes of War Machine, Black Widow, Hawkeye, Scarlet Witch, Bucky Barnes, Black Panther, Falcon, Ant-Man and Vision. These are all major characters, but in order to make up for the absence of characters as huge as Hulk and Thor, they're really going to have to step up their games. As four separate entities, the Hulk, Thor, Mark Ruffalo and Chris Hemsworth are big losses to any Avengers get-together. Fans of the characters and actors in question will badly need a hole filled, so it's going to take big performances from at least one of the above crew to ensure that happens. The Winter Soldier seems like a likely candidate - Iron Man's beef with him (he killed his parents) could result in a confrontation as epic as the Hulkbuster fight in Avengers: Age of Ultron - and with Sebastian Stan on course to become the new Captain America in the future, such a showdown would be a great way to show he's ready for the big time. Vision also seems plausible, as he's one of the only remaining Avengers capable of matching Hulk and Thor in combat (he could also use the Mind Stone to bring the Civil War to an end, which would obviously be a huge moment).
