Captain America: Civil War - 10 Major Reveals From The New Images

2. Why The Russos Chose Tom Holland As Spider-Man

While we still don't know a huge amount about how Spider-Man is going to factor into Captain America: Civil War, the Russo Brothers at least shed some light on what it was like to find out that they were going to be able to use him in the movie. For starters, they confirmed that Black Panther was brought in when the deal with Marvel and Sony didn't look like it was moving forward. Of course, that all ultimately changed, and it was The Russos who played a key role in ensuring that Tom Holland landed the role (it was previously reported that Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal were the ones who made the decision). "We did two screen tests with the character. We were pretty vocal about who we wanted for the part," Joe tells the magazine, citing his work in The Impossible as one of the main reasons they gravitated towards him. "He€™s fantastic. Amazing. It€™s like Christian Bale in Empire Of The Sun. Rarely do you see a kid carry a movie like that." "He€™s also a dancer and a gymnast. He fits the part like you can€™t believe," Joe continued. "Another thing that we were really pushing for was to go young with the part. It€™s the only way to differentiate it from what€™s been done in the past. Get him as close as you can to the age that is." These two clearly played a huge role in choosing the new Spider-Man then, something which perhaps isn't all that surprising, especially as he's expected to end up factoring into the two-part Avengers: Infinity War - which the Russos will return to direct - in a major way a few years from now.
