12. Crossbones IS The Trigger
According to Hitfix, the event in the comic books that kicks off Civil War - the Stamford Incident - won't be happening as it does on the page in the forthcoming movie. But co-writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely did massively hint at whose behaviour would replace that flashpoint:
Crossbones is interesting. Again, a character who we all love and an actor we all love. We felt like there was a really good way for him to, once again, kind of fan the conflict that was already brewing. Heres a guy who is a free radical. Hydra has kind of gone under. Hes sort of doing his own thing now. What happens when he pops back up? He is, I think, probably more unhinged than he was in the last film. He is definitely serving his own agenda. Hes not afraid to kill people along the way. So he becomes almost the spark point for what happens with the rest of the film.
Rating: 9/10 It should hardly come as a shock: even the first trailer made it fairly clear that Cap's assault on the IFID was going to be right at the start of the timeline, and that the New Avengers' attempt to take Crossbones down would result in another catastrophe to pile on to the Avengers' rap sheet.
