Captain America: Civil War - 5 Things Learned From D23 Footage

2. Frank Grillo's Character Just Got A Lot Tougher And A Lot Meaner

Frank Grillo was last seen in the Marvel Universe as Brock Rumlow, a former S.H.I.E.L.D operative with ties to HYDRA. Although Rumlow got on the wrong side of a downed helicopter in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, he's back in Civil War. The dude wasn't a push-over before, but he sounds positively lethal now. Of course his alias has changed. The badly-charred Rumlow is now known as Crossbones, a fighting machine beefed up by body-armour and some nasty weaponry.
In the footage Crossbones emerges into an urban setting to do battle with Cap. In his previous incarnation Cap would have had Rumlow for breakfast, but as Crossbones it's a fairer fight. Initially Cap takes a few nasty slugs and is almost stabbed by Crossbones retractable blades, however the tide turns, and the hero is eventually able to overpower the villain. Even in defeat Crossbones is a mean piece of work though, whispering into Cap's ear:
"He remembered you. Your pal, your buddy, your Bucky€"
That's brutal. The footage didn't indicate if Crossbones has a part to play beyond this skirmish, but even in a short period of time he makes an impression.
