Captain America: Civil War - 7 Theories On How Bucky Will Be Key

1. Bucky Will Be The New Captain America

The Falcon may be acting as Captain America in the comics right now but it's doubtful that Marvel studios will have the stones to give the shield to Anthony Mackie should the beloved Chris Evans leave the role. It's far more likely that the honour will fall to Sebastian Stan and Bucky if the MCU's Steve Rogers is killed off or retires from heroism at the end of Civil War. Aside from the fact it happened on the page, we've already seen a fair amount of foreshadowing for Bucky's rise to Captain America. For a start there was the scene in The Winter Soldier where he caught Cap's Shield and threw it back, which is possibly even more symbolic than the Vision lifting Thor's hammer, and he even held it in The First Avenger. Then there's the trailer for Civil War, with the two fighting Iron Man in perfect synchronicity, showing Barnes more than capable of stepping into his friend's star-spangled jump suit. Chris Evans is confirmed to be part of the cast of Avengers: Infinity War but there's no reason he couldn't appear as a flashback or as Steve Rogers and not Cap. If he does die, and Evans' name on the cast list is just a fake-out from Marvel to head off spoilers, then we could see Bucky Barnes, the new Captain America, leading Earth's Mightiest Heroes in the a charge against Thanos.
