4. He Is Most Well-Known For His TV Shows
Fukunaga first came to prominence as director and executive producer of the first series of HBO’s critically acclaimed True Detective starring Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson, which earned him an Emmy Award for Best Director.
Fukunaga continued as executive producer on True Detective's second series which, despite mixed critical reviews, maintained a high viewership for HBO. He is not, however, billed to produce the upcoming third season which is set to air in early 2019.
More recently, he directed Netflix's 2018 adaptation of the dark Norwegian comedy series Maniac starring Emma Stone and Jonah Hill. The series has gone on to receive positive reviews from audiences and critics alike, with many praising the series' stunning visuals and surreal plot.
