Cate Blanchett: 5 Awesome Performances And 5 That Sucked
2. Daisy Fuller The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button (2008)
Every director has his low points. Steven Spielberg has failed war-comedy 1941, Quentin Tarantino mucked up Death Proof, and M Night Shyamalan has his entire career. In the curious case of David Fincher, it was an uncharacteristically sentimental, drawn-out Forrest Gump rip-off masquerading as an adaptation of an F Scott Fitzgerald short story. And, yes, the screenplay was actually by the Forrest Gump guy. Who has apparently only ever had one idea his whole life, since The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button is another picaresque tale of a man's life that takes in every major historical event of his lifetime, ending with Hurricane Katrina for some reason. Except here the man in question ages backwards! It's a three hour long tech demo of the special effects that let Brad Pitt age backwards, essentially, with more time spent on that and making everything else look authentically old-timey without bothering with, y'know, writing good characters. Blanchett is Pitt's love interest, and that's as far as her character gets. A waste.
