Chadwick Boseman: Every Movie Ranked Worst To Best

13. Message From The King (2016)

Message From The King was Boseman's first major role following his MCU debut in Captain America: Civil War (2016). The action-thriller finds him cast as Jacob King, a man who leaves the safety of his South African home to find out what's happened to his missing sister (Sibongile Mlambo) in LA.

An occasionally gripping revenge flick in which Boseman gives a raging performance as a man willing to do anything for the ones he loves, Message From The King benefits from a packed ensemble (Alfred Molina and Luke Evans stop by as the film's shady antagonists), but is let down by its sheer predictability and dull mystery.

Like many post-Taken race-against-time thrillers, the film throws its pieces onto the board with little tact or plan, and leaves little to the imagination.

It's a shame, because the star power and drama is all there, raring to go, but the film just isn't willing to rise to the challenge.
