Chadwick Boseman: Every Movie Ranked Worst To Best

11. Draft Day (2014)

Marshall Chadwick Boseman
Lionsgate

Re-visiting Boseman's filmography, it's remarkable how many sports dramas he starred in during the early days of his career. Draft Day came out following his big break in the previous year's 42 (2013), and sees the actor once more strut his stuff on the football field as prominent (and fictional) linebacker Vontae Mack.

Boseman plays second fiddle to Kevin Costner's weary NFL manager Sonny Weaver, who finds himself stuck between a rock and a hard place as he figures out how best to handle his team for the new gaming season, but shines bright when given a chance to work a scene.

Much like The Express, Draft Day is a predictable and by-the-books sports feature, relying heavily on expositional dialogue and undeserved sentimentality, and it's also been called out for the plot's implausibility and lack of cohesion.

But it's still a good film. Inaccuracies aside, Draft Day is a solid slice of inspiring entertainment. It's far from a revelation, but it's not the kind of film you finish and instantly curse, either.
