Christopher Eccleston: 5 Awesome Performances And 5 That Sucked

1. Malekith - Thor: The Dark World (2013)

Thor Dark World Malekith What went wrong here hasn't really got much to do with Eccleston himself - had the actor been allowed to actually... well, "act," Malekith might have found affection with Marvel Cinematic Universe fans for years to come. I mean, the prospect of Christopher Eccleston playing a villain in this kind of movie is an exciting one - he's a proper actor, you know? Unfortunately, Malekith remains one of the more undeveloped and most generic villains in recent blockbuster movie memory. He spends the entire runtime mumbling in a different language, and that's it. The problem is that there's no depth to Malekith: we don't learn anything about him and he isn't afforded a real motive, which makes him about as interesting as an unbuttered slice of bread. And the layers of make-up and the fact that he speaks - for the most part, anyway - in a strange foreign tongue do nothing to help Christopher Eccleston out of what very soon establishes itself as a worryingly restricting performance. Did Eccleston himself feel like he managed to convey anything worthwhile here? Perhaps not. Still - at least it's a Hollywood movie, Christopher! Like this list? Agree or disagree? Jack Allen hasn't written a bio just yet, but if they had... it would appear here.
